Is there a way to hide/remove some of the view by sections in the UI? For example I do not really want to see lens or Camera 99.9% of the time. day, who, location, etc are more important for normal browsing.
The hiddenHomeTags setting does what you want, I believe.
The bit that might be considered missing is removal of links from the nav menu: that setting does not change the nav menu, fwiw.
