OK, so this has already been requested… Go vote for that feature request. The more the vote, the more likely it will get implemented.

Ability to delete originals after importing with "automatic organization"

I like this idea! I like this idea even more! Either approach is fine, but having a directory settings file is more scalable as you can add extra options in the future. If you can verify that the exact same image is in the library, I think it should be deleted.
