Nothing happens when I attempt to run. Running from a command line it shows:
[21414:0128/162413.390726:FATAL:gpu_data_manager_impl_private.cc(415)] GPU process isn't usable. Goodbye.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti w/16GB memory. Below is what the usage looks like with nvtop after running, there is nothing using either the CPU or memory.
I saw a post somewhere else that someone made, not sure if it was the same version, and the suggestion was to use PhotoStructure-2023.12.0-alpha.7-x86_64. I don’t recall if that was just an old post or what, but I tried this, it starts, never detects keywords in the images which is the one thing I wanted to use. But, I don’t plan on using a 2 year old version anyway.
Welcome to PhotoStructure @Dave_Hahn , apologies for the poor first impression!
The desktop build is, as you found, currently languishing on an ancient build. My active users seem to mostly want to run PhotoStructure out of docker, so the last (many) beta releases have been only for PhotoStructure for Node and PhotoStructure for Docker. Read more about those two here:
I had to rewrite the entire desktop integration due to breaking changes in Electron and desktop packaging. Until I can get that released, I recommend running a beta server build.
Again, apologies for the inconvenience – the desktop build will return!
Ok, makes sense. I was able to get the Node version running.
Not sure how the keywords get imported though or if I’m doing something wrong. I have hierarchical keywords defined and embedded in the images as XMP data (not sidecar files).
If I select home, it appears that they are extracted when I select “Who” (tag structure is People/" or “Animals/” but if I select View by Keywords, it says “0 assets”.
Not sure if that is just the same view filtering out the By Folder, By Date and so on anyway. If it is, I guess just wondering why it shows “0 assets”, but also, in the viewes, is there any way to just view the hierarchy without presenting everything in a list with the thumbnails?
Ultimately I am looking at 100K images and ideally a way to just drill down to whatever keyword I’m looking for, then selecting it and seeing the matching images. I plan on a lot of keywords, generated using AI, plus all of my custom ones, and it feels like this would be a challenge to navigate.
Maybe this is covered somewhere, if it is just let me know and I’ll dig in, just asking here since I already started this.
There are many, many ways to encode keywords into metadata – I’ve tried to make PhotoStructure’s keyword metadata extractor as robust as possible, but I may not be looking in the place that you’ve stored yours in.
Can you email me with a zip or tarball with an example image along with what keywords you expect to see?
Also: the next release adds a dropdown to the header that lists all child tags for the current tag: it really helps in navigating through deep and wide hierarchies.
